Trust and asset protection
You might set up a trust:
- to support someone who can’t manage their money at this moment in time, due to being a child
- to make sure that your own money is used to look after you if you can’t look after yourself
A trust can be especially useful if you have a child with a mental health condition or learning disability and you’re worried about how they’ll manage financially after you pass away. If you are considering setting up a trust, then please get in touch.
Appointing guardians
There are many types of guardianship; who can be appointed and what powers do they require.
A guardian often plays many different roles, with the most important one being to look after a child as the representative of his/her parent in the United Kingdom. United Kingdom law stipulates that any international student under the age of 18 must appoint a Turkish-based Guardian if receiving full-time education in the United Kingdom. In order to comply with child guardianship and student guardianship rules (the Children’s Acts 1980 & 1989), private boarding schools in United Kingdom require international students, who are in full-time education, to have a legal guardian in this country.
Guardians act as a bridge between parents and the child’s school, offering peace of mind and security in the knowledge that there is someone there to help out.
